Friday and Saturday Performances are On!

Posted in Uncategorized on September 18, 2008 by boldhouston

Our thoughts are with everyone in and around the Houston area recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. We are hopeful that many of you who planned to attend our BOLD performances of Birth will still join us this Friday and Saturday night at 7pm at HITS Theatre. We understand that this is a trying time for many, ourselves included, and we are looking forward to “getting away” from it all for a few hours to enjoy this moving, thought-provoking play.

If you have questions, concerns, or comments about our revised performance schedule, please contact us at boldhouston2008 at gmail dot com.

A Call for BIRTH Stories

Posted in 2008 with tags , , , , on August 22, 2008 by boldhouston

Childbirth is a peak experience in our lives. No matter our age, we never forget our birth and we carry the feelings about our births throughout our life. It can be a powerful, life-changing event which is joyful and empowering. It can also, due to many reasons and circumstances, be disappointing and hurtful. It is good for us to share our birth stories, because through our sharing we can heal, and we can educate ourselves to allow and facilitate change to happen.

BIRTH is proud to be the Houston sponsor of a Red Tent Event – an opportunity for women and men to share their birth stories. This event is from 7:00 pm to 8:00p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2008 following the last performance of the BOLD play BIRTH written by Karen Brody on Sunday, September 14 at 2:00 pm at Hits Theater – 311 West 18th – in the Heights.

Submit your birth story to be read at this Red Tent Event. 5-7 stories will be selected and read, either by the submitter or by someone else, which ever you prefer.

Guidelines for submission:

  • Birth stories must be no more than 1200 words.
  • All stories must have occurred in the United States in the last five years.
  • Include your name, contact information, and your child’s name and date of birth.
  • The deadline to submit your birth story is September 11, 2008.
  • Please do not refer to care providers – physician or midwife by their name in the reading

Please submit your story to birthcare@aol.com or mail to P.O. Box 541144, Houston, Texas, 77254.
